From October 9 to 11, 2024, the School of Physical Education at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso hosted the 1st International Congress on Physical Education, Sport, and Exercise Sciences. This event marked a significant milestone in reviving scientific gatherings in this field within the university, aiming to establish itself as a permanent congress.
The program included pre-congress seminars and workshops, alongside 16 main activities such as roundtable discussions and lectures. These featured 21 speakers from five countries, addressing topics across four key areas: Physical Activity Sciences, Management of Physical Activity and Sports, Motor Development and Sports Training, and Initial Teacher Training in Physical Education.
A total of 67 abstracts were presented, including 27 oral presentations and 40 posters. These works covered interdisciplinary topics such as physical activity for health, cognition and mental health, inclusion and gender, teacher training, and more, emphasizing their social impact and thematic diversity.
This special edition of the Journal of Movement and Health compiles the congress abstracts, inviting readers to explore these quality, interdisciplinary, and socially impactful research contributions while anticipating the 2nd International Congress in the coming years.
