Abstract

Objective: To describe the maximum aerobic power (VO2max), anthropometric characteristics, and grip strength of players in the Chilean women’s field hockey team, and analyze these variables based on playing position. Methods: This observational study included 22 adult players from the Chilean field hockey team. The VO2max was assessed using indirect calorimetry with breath-by-breath gas analysis. Anthropometric measures included body fat percentage, lean mass, weight, and height. Grip strength was evaluated using dynamometry. Results: The average relative VO2max was 50.6 ± 3.69 ml·kg·min−1. The mean body fat percentage was 20.3 ± 4.5%, and grip strength averaged 32.4 ± 3.9 kg for the right hand and 31.9 ± 3.9 kg for the left. No significant differences (p > 0.05) were found based on playing position. Conclusion: Chilean field hockey players exhibit homogeneous characteristics in aerobic power, anthropometry, and grip strength across playing positions. This highlights the need for position-specific training strategies to enhance players’ sports performance.
